The ’80s were a decade filled with mix tapes, roller rinks and hanging out at Dairy Queen, an era when big hair, ridiculously tiny shorts, handlebar mustaches and keg parties reigned supreme, a last gasp of the simple life before advances in industry and technology changed society forever. In other words — to quote Charles Dickens — they were the best of times AND the worst of times.

All of that is captured in last year’s Sundance favorite “Skateland,” a poignant indie about friends growing up in a small Texas town, grappling with family problems and the uncertainties of their own future, and trying to guzzle a few more beers before they reluctantly take on the responsibilities of adulthood. It’s also a film in which “Twilight” star Ashley Greene shows off her quite formidable dramatic acting chops and a solid fashion sense to boot, despite the 1980s’ unfortunate obsession with leg warmers and perms.

With things having been so slow, I’ve been sitting on our pretty new layout for a few weeks now. However, I figured that it was a time for a change and there was no use in delaying. Made by the very talented Tran, our new layout features a favorite photo of ours from Ashley and Jackson’s Glamour shoot. Welcome to the second installment of “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone’s EXCLUSIVE web diary on Hollywood Crush! Today’s entry is especially juicy as it features not one, but two 100 Monkeys exclusives. First, is the band’s new music video “Kolpix.” That’s right, you’re seeing it here first. The video, directed by Jackson’s bud William Schmidt, finds the band members rocking out from different far-flung locales.

“Everyone has such a fun time performing on stage,” William said speaking to Jackson. “I thought it was really fun that you [the band] all have your own personalities, so we kind of divide you up and put you around the world in different points and watch you play.”

“We filmed on location,” Jackson explained with a sly grin. “Very exotic locations like Brooklyn. Los Angeles. Milan, Italy. We flew Jerad Anderson and [William] to Milan. And Nepal. It was difficult getting Uncle Larry up to Nepal.”
