J-14 exclusive interview with Jackson Rathbone on Vampires Vs. Werewolves

J-14: Going from Twilight to New Moon, there’s definitely a shift in focus from vampires to werewolves. How did that effect the chemistry on the set — do you feel like you had to take a backseat?

Jackson Rathbone: Not really. It was one of those things when we came back for New Moon, it was like a family reunion because we are like a family. We do eat together, play together, and what not. It was kind of like we came back in for a good two or three weeks, we did our piece and then we left and then the story really got taken over by Taylor Lautner playing Jacob Black — and he just does an incredible job.

J-14: So it has a totally different focus than Twilight?

Jackson: It’s one of those things where you think losing Robert Pattinson for a lot of the movie would kind of be like a down turn but you basically get another, equally inspired, and equally riveting male star in Jacob Black. It’s one of those things where Bella is devastated by the departure of her vampire love but you know she gets her spirit rekindled by her growing friendship and her growing love in her and Jacob.

People brings us a sneak peek at Ashley’s upcoming interview for the December issue of Maxim:

Ashley Greene may not be the newest vampire on the block, but as she braces for more Twilight hype when New Moon opens this month, she still sees stardom as something very fresh – and shocking.

“It’s crazy, right?” she tells the December issue of Maxim, out Nov. 17. “I think my dog is more famous than a lot of stars out there. I bet some people in Hollywood are like, ‘I can’t get my picture in a mag, but Ashley’s pooch [Marlow] does?’ It’s mind-boggling.”

But while Greene is adjusting to the pressures of the paparazzi, she makes it clear she brought this on herself.

“Oh, my God, I wanted this part so badly! I worked my butt off for it because I absolutely love Alice, my character,” says Greene. “She’s sweet, sexy, and a killer! So when they told me I got it, I tried to play it all cool, you know, for about a minute.”

But that attitude didn’t last long. “Suddenly the Twilight blogs started picking it up, and then fans were there taking photos, and I’m on the news, and I was like, ‘What?’ And then I got really nervous.”

So what’s next? “I want to hit up James Bond,” she says. “That would be awesome.”

Q: How was it to make New Moon with a new director and a new story that has a whole different emphasis?

Ashley: This go-around, I think we were all a little bit more prepared, which was nice. In the first film, we were all going, “What’s going on? What’s happening?” And, we had the support of the fans behind us. In the first one, we were going, “Oh, God, we hope they don’t hate us,” and they completely embraced us. So, going into the second one, I think it was a much more fun, relaxed experience, at least for me.

Q: How was that different from working with Catherine Hardwicke?

Ashley: I think Catherine was thrown into it just as much as the rest of us. So, as the rest of us, she was kind of going, “Oh, my gosh, what’s happening?”

Q: Ashley, did you have any input into Alice’s wardrobe because she’s so stylish?

Ashley: Yeah, they definitely ask our input. We have a little bit of input in it. I don’t think it’s any secret that I really adore Audrey Hepburn, so I asked that maybe they throw that in there a little bit. And, I think Jackie O. was thrown in there a little bit. I loved it. I wanted to take my wardrobe home with me, each day.

Q: Was that you driving that car? What was that like?

Ashley: It was me driving the car, which scared all of the producers. Two takes and it was over.

Thanks to the Twilight Examiner, here’s an interview from September where Jackson, along with Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz, discuss New Moon!

Q: What was your favorite scene to film in New Moon?

Jackson: I’ve got to say my favorite scene to film was in the trailer and you got to see a glimpse of it. And that wasn’t even quite the entire scene so hopefully you know, people are still going to be surprised by the scene of the birthday party whenever. In my mind it’s kind of the catalyst for the entire idea of New Moon, and the Cullens kind of getting out of Dodge, if you excuse my tongue there. It’s kind of the idea that you know, finally Bella is really having to face the idea of what it is to be in a relationship with a vampire and the downside of it you know, what happens when you get something as simple as a paper cut and how that can screw everything up. And suddenly the Cullens are gone and we take off in order to protect Bella and it’s one of those things where she doesn’t really feel protected, she feels abandoned, but luckily she’s got her good friend, Jacob Black, who starts to become a little bit more than just a good friend. You see that whole side of things, the wolf boys.
